COMMISSIONS
MY COMMISSION PROCESS
Creating a commissioned piece is a collaborative journey that begins with conversation and trust. My goal is to translate the emotion and energy of the collector, in harmony with the mood and function of the space, into something that feels personal, relevant, and impactful.
The art I create is more than décor; it’s a reflection of your story, your space, and the shared humanity that connects us all.
Commissioning an artwork is, by nature, a leap of faith - a step into the unknown that requires mutual trust and understanding. My goal is to guide that journey with clarity, intuition, and care.
1. Initial Conversation: We begin by exploring what draws you to my work - color, mood, movement, or story - and by discussing the space where the piece will live. I’ll often visit in person (or review photos and inspiration materials) to understand the light, palette, and personality of the environment.
2. Proposal: From there, I create a tailored proposal outlining size, color direction, and emotional tone.
3. Deposit & Scheduling: Once a direction is agreed upon, a 45% non-refundable deposit secures your place in my schedule.
4. Creation: When I’m ready to focus on your commission, I begin working on three to four canvases - each one meeting the brief, yet each expressing a slightly different interpretation of our shared vision.
5. Updates: I don’t typically send initial sketches or progress updates, as the paintings can evolve dramatically as layers build and new dynamics emerge. Each work unfolds through rhythm, risk, and restraint, and no two are ever alike.
6. In-Situ Review: When the paintings are nearing completion, when possible, I often bring them into the
space to test scale, saturation, value, and overall resonance within the environment. Together, we review how each piece interacts with the light, architecture, and spirit of the room.
7. Refinement: Back in the studio, I move into the editing and refining phase. Not all of the initial pieces may make it to the final presentation, allowing me to focus fully on completing the strongest works.
8. Final Presentation: The completed paintings are either viewed in person within the space, or - for clients outside the area - presented through a detailed video showing each piece up close and in context.

HOW TO CHOOSE ART YOU'LL LOVE FOREVER
TIPS FROM BOTH SIDES OF THE FENCE

A designer/artist’s perspective:
1. Feel it first, think it later
Your body knows before your head does. Pay attention: does the piece stir your soul, spark curiosity, or light something inside you? You don’t need to explain it or rationalize why - it’s enough that it moves you.
2. Forget the sofa test
Art isn’t about matching your soft furnishing or wallpaper. Instead, ask: what energy do I want to bring into this room? A family space might call for warmth and connection, while a bedroom might whisper calm and intimacy. Great interior design is built through layers, history, and contrast not through “safe” matches.
3. Play the long game
Trends fade, but love endures. The art you truly connect with will grow alongside you, across new homes and changing furniture. Individuality creates intrigue and keeps your space alive.
4. Seek resonance, not perfection
The right piece won’t always be the one that’s easiest to explain. It’s the one that quietly insists, the one you can’t stop thinking about.
5. Choose for you - not for them
Designers, friends, guests—everyone will have an opinion. But at the end of the day, you’re the one who wakes up and goes to bed with this piece. Choose the work that feels like home to you.
